The Thunderstruck Tree
The tree wonders if it can ever
Truly heal from the lightning
The blow was perhaps too harsh
The cut was perhaps too deep
The tree could withstand the thunderstorm
It remained stark, firm and tall
This is perhaps the reason they deform
In this strike of lighting, where was the trees fault
No matter how the wood heals
It has to grow around the crack
What this terrible tragedy reveals
Is that the eternal drops of dew have dried away
The leaves lush have all dried out
The tree is left boundless and bare
But does it even matter what caused the drought
If the forest dries away beyond repair
